Hello, this is Virak speaking.
At the recent involvement of my buddies and I, in adventures so to speak.. I wanted to pursue a possible fictional storyline. The process can be very systematic, or we can get together and just start writing. Now getting the five of us together at once has proved to be difficult, I propose.. if any writing of the short occurs then it should only be on the basis that at least two of the five are writing. Prefered to be over a medium that does not involved typing.
An idea for the setting that I had were to have everything take place in a sort of older world. It has existed along side the world that we live in, so it still has modern and sometimes more advanced technologies. Different eras in our history can be included such as; the wild west in a desert setting, a busy city setting, farming, world war setting, total jungle setting, and small town setting. As the characters (predominately us five) interact with the environment through their actions, comments, changed behavior, and maybe even a notice in their normal dress.
For the introduction, a base for the characters to develop on should be established. The easiest way to do this would to have each of us have our own "hometown setting" where we interact with supposedly familiar characters and all of them being separate. An example would be someone getting ready to go on a planned adventure, and as you see them getting ready some of their personality comes out. They could be usually messy, or perfectly clean. Some of the interaction between the main character and some of the side characters would be with the character's family and how they both act among each other.
Each character should be a sort of stock character. Someone that is strictly recognizable. As the story progesses should be when the changes are noticed or come about. Easy ones to write for that we could use are; a doctor, cold bounty hunter/assassin, two athletic and competitive brothers (like in ocean's eleven even though they werent athletic), and a priest. All of these characters can be picked up easily and you are expected to know how they act and react.
With this character roster, we would have four separate introductions (the brothers would share one). Beyond the introductions, we need something to tie the characters together. A few cheap shots would be.. all involved in a war, all in a type of school, all recuited by some mysterious organization or person, all in a competition, all have separate business in a busy city, but keep bumping into each other, one at a time people are added to the group (idea from one piece) with their own background reasons for joining up.
Now with a storyline developed, a medium needs to be chosen. The coolest would be a comic book or manga form. None of us can draw, but most of us have experience with cameras and photo editing. Another would be simple book form; with chapters and sequels and such. This is my least favorite idea, mainly because it is the easiest to do. Hardest to do technical-wise would to be to film it. The first step would be to write the screenplay, then maybe in time we would have the materials to film. I know a lot of people that have made student films. One was during high school, and with that in mind.. the filming should count as creativity. We still need the most work in this section but the two most plusable ideas that I like best would be the comic book style using pictures instead of drawn blocks, and just writing a screenplay to be filmed. My vote is toward the screen play idea because we would still have a finished product that is easy to write (the screenplay) and have the possible future addition with the film.
The plan for the end of the project, which is something really far away if we do start it up.. should be something storywise that does not drag on too long. If it is the comic book idea, then continuing would be easy. Same goes for the book, but not the screenplay. The screenplay would have to have a time limit on it for the possible filming. This would be fun to condense because we have all seen movies that blew us away, all in a few hours. One very farfetched idea.. is to write the comic book or book with the screenplay in mind. To many times have there been comic book/ novel adaptations to movies. This is a longer term project but would yield the most results.
Now for particiapation. The five of us.. obviously.. is what this project is for. Work is work when you have to do it. Fun is fun when you choose to do it. Mark Twain used this definition for some of his books. This is a child's definition. If this project does go through, it will be wicked fun. At least on my part, I won't speak for others. But we will need to enforce progress, otherwise it will drag on and become incomplete. Most people working in the movie business, book business, and gaming business... love their jobs. It does not mean it is not their job. As Mr. Brazee has said.. "Make sure you're always taken steps forward, even little tiny baby steps, as long as you're movin' forward."
I have laid this out infront of you all. The decision must be unanimous. Get back to me.

<3 the idea =]
as for the characters i think we should portray ourselves...but not like our daily activities or something..though we can tie in a thing or two =] but something more us and after we're done...perhaps our senior year...it'll be our sort of book of memories =] and we can print it out on Blurb...so we can have our own lil book to keep =] andd we can have a separate section for pics and random events...which i have in a folder on my comp starting w/last part of freshmen yr and the brazee project...lol. =]
I think you went a different way with that one kim, but good idea any. I love the idea v. I really think with some good work, this could turn into something amazing! I have a lot of ideas, which is too much to put in this small comment box, but ill see you tomorrow, and i can share some of them with you.
